Welcome to Heysaygenshiro.
Boy, what an amazing day.
Almost a year ago old man Kitagawa mumbled something about a possible debut in April. April came and went, then May and June, and nothing happened. Then came Hey! Say! 7. That was awesome but just temporary. Then they anounced the Heisei Families TV program, and when I was almost sure that they were finally done milking that Heisei/Hey!Say! pun they suddenly come up with a mega-group of 10 people, 10 great people, and it all went bam bam bam! Five days ago a subtle hint in Myojo, and today there’s no mystery left. We know who they are, we have seen them perform, we heard the song, we know when it’s going to be released and we know they’ll have a concert in Tokyo Dome on December 22. After months and months of waiting, things just began to happen at a nauseating pace. But for me the speed is the only nauseating thing aboout it, so I’m not complaining. This could have been far worse, as I wrote in my face-my-biggest-fear post a couple of days ago, but I never ever even dared to dream that this new groups would be anywhere near as awesome as I now think it is.
I found out about Hey! Say! JUMP only a couple of hours ago, and a million things have been going through my mind ever since. In those hours I’ve felt joy, excitement, disbelief, happiness, sadness, cheerfulness, gloominess, and everything in between. Right now I feel confused, and it’ll probably take a couple of days until I know what I really think about all this. Until then, here’s what I think about Hey! Say! JUMP for now, and excuse me for being totally random:
10: I think that Mr. Johnny likes records, and that he is trying to break as many of them while he still can. Here’s another one: 10 people in a group. 10 sounds like an awful lot to me. I remember when J.J.Express were 9 people, and I thought they were way too many. So now 10. 10 may work great on a huge stage at Yokohama Arena or Tokyo Dome. But how will it work on TV? Oh well, we’ll find out.
12: The youngest member’s age. Ryutaro is 12. That strikes me as awfully young for a debut, but hey, it’s another record I believe. Has anyone in Johnny’s ever debuted at a younger age? I think not. Anyway, today I don’t give a shit if this is too young or how well he’ll do. I’ve wanted to see Yuto, Ryosuke and Ryutaro in a group together since forever, and now it’s finally happening, so yay! Plus, I love his eyes.
15: The members’ average age. That, too, is an awfully young age for a group to debut. There’s an age gap of 5 years between the oldest and the youngest. Right now I don’t know if that’s good or bad.
O: Okamoto Keito. Oh well, I haven’t had much time to stalk other people’s blogs today, but I’m sure there’s quite a few who are like “bla, why is he there, he didn’t deserve it, bla, he’s been in Johnny’s only such a short time, bla, and he’s only there because of his famous dad”. Okay, well, Tegoshi was in Johnny’s for a relatively short time before he was picked for NEWS. The same goes for V6′s Okada Junichi. I’m sure they didn’t “deserve” it either. If everybody got what they deserved Johnny’s active senior groups would look waaaay different today. I don’t get what I deserve either. That’s life. As for his famous dad, hey, there’s another record: first time both a dad and his son debuted. But I’m still not convinced that this is the only reason he’s there. We haven’t seen a lot of him yet, and I suggest that we wait just a tiny little while until we have, because maybe, just maybe, there’s some real talent in him. Be it as it may, he’s very pretty and I’m sure he’ll be popular with the fans. He’s already popular with me.
Ya-Ya-yah, Shonen Club and all the rest: it’s so hard to predict what is going to happen. I can’t really imagine Shonen Club without those 10 people. And I’m thinking: all Hey! Say! JUMP members are still in school. There’s no way they could do a 3-month national tour and all that other stuff like other debuted groups. So why not let them stay on Shokura? Taking HSJ out of Shokura might very well lead to a huge drop in TV ratings. Having a debuted group on Shokura would very likely result in better ratings for the program. So yeah. The same goes actually for Ya-Ya-yah, both the group and the TV program. If Ryo can be in NEWS and Kanjani 8 at the same time, then Yabu and Hikaru can be in both HSJ and Ya-Ya-yah. All debuted Johnny’s groups have their own TV program. I don’t think this will happen for HSJ any time soon, at least not as long there’s Heisei Families and Ya-Ya-yah. But as long as there’s HSF, Hyakushiki and Ya3 they’d have six of their ten members on TV every week, and I’m sure they’d find a way to fit in the other four as semi-regular guests or something. So yeah, right now I’m not really that worried about the Ya-Ya-yah TV program. But maybe that’s just whistling in the dark. I don’t know.
For three years I’ve been hoping for a Ya-Ya-yah debut. Right now I don’t think this is ever going to happen, and it’s really weird how it doesn’t really make me go mad at the moment. But who knows, maybe that’ll happen in the next couple of days.
Okay, that’s it for now. I know there’s probably a lot of things that are actually bad about this whole Hey! Say! JUMP debut thing, but today I feel like celebrating and being happy about it. So finally… Hey! Say! JUMP on Hey! Hey! Hey! tonight, recorded during the Yokohama Arena concert:
