I spent all night and day reading Japanese blogs and news sites to gather information about Hey!Say!JUMP‘s debut concert at Tokyo Dome. Here’s some of the things I found:
- The concert started with a bang. Yuto shouted out “We’re Hey!Say!JUMP!”, the curtain rose fell, and 55,000 fans produced a deafening cheer
- Hey!Say!JUMP entered the arena riding on a 30m long and 8m high dragon
- 250 Juniors supported HSJ during the concert
- Including the encore a total of 21 songs was performed
- Daiki played Taiko drums
- Shintaro was abducted by the evil Kisumai & A.B.C. tribes. He called out for his big brother to help him, and in a fierce sword battle Ryutaro saved Shintaro’s life.
- Keito gave a short speech in English, thanking everyone for coming to the concert and telling his dad (who was in the audience) that he intends to outshine him.
- Special guests were Inohara Yoshihiko (V6) and Sakurai Sho (Arashi)
- For the song Star Time Inochi accompanied HSJ on the piano
- Chinen sang his solo sitting on a swing that was hanging down from a balloon. At the end of the song he took a bungee dive down to the ground
- During the MC Takaki said “I wanted to enter Johnny’s after I had seen a Kinki Kids concert from the 3rd floor seating here at Tokyo Dome. To stand on this stage had been my biggest goal, so when I came out here today I almost felt like crying.”
- Also during the MC Yabu told fans to make room in their summer schedules for a big Hey!Say!JUMP event next July and August

God, I feel so terrible now. I’ve read so many reports of people who thought it was a great concert. But I also feel kinda excited about that big summer event that Yabu announced. According to news reports it will take place at a specially designed venue in Tokyo (probably similar to the thing they built for the 2004 Summary concerts).
I am so gonna go to see this event. Like seriously.
And I hope that by the time that event begins they have come up with a better way to organize the selling of concert goods. I’ve read a couple of reports from people who described it as nightmare. First people were queuing up in 2 lines, which later spilt into 4. Some people didn’t care about lines at all and total chaos ensued, so that finally the organizers had the police come in to take care of the situation. Also, some people were kinda pissed off that Yamada goods sold out pretty soon. Ryosuke definitely seems to be the most popular HSJ member. Whenever his face was shown on the big screen in the arena, the crowd went nuts.
Apparently the overall behaviour of some of the fans gave rise to some complaints from others. Like the chaos at the goods selling. Or holding up their uchiwas above their heads so that people behind them couldn’t see a thing. Or the fact that they kept screaming during the MC or when HSJ performed a ballad version of Ultra Music Power. And I know how annoying such behaviour can be. At the Ya-Ya-yah Yokohama Arena concert in 2005 there was a 12-year-old girl standing maybe 5 rows behind me. When they sang Sekai ga hitotsu ni naru made (my personal favourite at the time and the song I had been looking forward to the most) that girl kept screaming “Yabu! Yabuuuuu!” on top of her lungs throught the whole friggin’ song, as if she was expecting him to stop singing and come over to her to ask her out or something. I just wanted to kill her just like she had killed that performance for me and everyone around her.
So anyway, it’s 7 months to the big event. 7 months to plan it all, 7 months to pack my suitcase, 7 months to get the money together, to book a hotel, to get tickets, to book a flight. OMG, it’s only 7 months! I need to get a haircut too.
