Let’s face it, life sucks. Well, most of the time it does, although it does have its moments. Anyone know what punctuated equilibrium means? I do. It’s a theory in evolutionary biology, but it applies to everyday life as well. To put it simply, it means that very often nothing interesting happens for a long time and then suddenly tons of great things happen almost all at once, or at least within a very short period of time.
So yeah, today I’m very happy. And not only today. Actually I’m on a streak here, a streak that’s been going on since last Friday. There have been so many things going on this past week, things that just make me happy. The Juniors on Music Station, the DECASPORTA commercials, Shonen Club, all that stuff, and it all culminates in this day today.
Let me start with the 2nd great thing that happened to me today (I’ll get to the 1st one in a bit), the Heisei Families 2008.03.09 Live Stage. Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana is a beautiful song. And it’s not only one of the best selling singles of all time (in Japan), it’s probably also my favourite SMAP song of all time. I loved it when I first heard in a Ya-Ya-yah Live Stage years ago, and I’ve loved it ever since. Hearing that song is enough to cheer me up when I’m feeling not so good. Seishun Amigo is another one of my all time favourites. Both songs together in a medley by Hey!Say!JUMP is just pure ♥, except… oh well, see for yourselves.

Okay, first the good things:
- Chinen’s voice is really beginning to change. I’m so happy that it’s not so squeaky and childlike anymore. ♥
- Ryosuke’s voice is still changing. God oh God, why can’t they be like this forever? ♥
- Yuto as grown so big! And soon he’ll be sex on (very long) legs. ♥
- Keito has no idea what he’s doing. Just look at his eyes during the close up. ♥
- Ryutaro knows exactly what he’s doing. Bobbing his upper body to the left and to the right is just ♥
- Hikaru used to be an annoying little brat that couldn’t even sing. And I loved him. Now he’s still an annoying little brat, but one that can sing. And I love him so much more. ♥
- Inoo and Daiki need more love. Or more dreamboying Yabu. ♥
- Everyone needs more Juniors. ♥
The first two minutes of this medley were, just in case you didn’t notice, pure ♥. And then suddenly… Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana, setsunai kono kokoro de. WHAT’Sですよ!!! I swear, at that point my neighbours heard me scream when I first watched this clip. What an incredibly versatile song Ultra Music Power is. It’s a volleyball song, it’s a Christmas song, last week it was a Year 2000 song and now it’s a graduation song. The only question is, when will Hey!Say!JUMP finally graduate from this song? >_>
You know what, I think I know why they’re doing this, and it’s an evil but ingenious masterplan. They keep shoving this song down our throats so much that we become so despearte for a new song that we’ll buy two copies instead of one once that new song is released.
Which reminds me, Arashi are releasing a new album next month. That makes me happy too, because I really liked their last one and I hope this one will be just as good. It’ll be called Dream”A”live, and both the Limited Edition and the Normal Edition are available for pre-order from YesAsia now. So yeah, that’s great, but that volleyball thing is starting next weekend, so wouldn’t it be about time to announce a release date for JUMP’s Chance to Change if they’re really releasing it as a single? Just asking. Because that would make me kinda happy too.
And finally, what made me really really happy today was that I received both my Johnny’s Jr and my Hey!Say!JUMP calendars today. YAY!!! You know, I had seen the scans before, and I thought the Junior calendar was okay and the JUMP calendar was awesome. But actually holding them in my hands and seeing how big and shiny they are is an experience I can’t even describe. And I’ve changed my verdict from “okay” to “awesome” for the Junior calendar and from “awesome” to “beyond words” for the HSJ one. Seriously, people, if you were thinking about getting any one of these calendars but you weren’t sure if you should, trust me: you should.
