Actually, it’s three boys, and even if I predicted two of them correctly the final result left me totally stunned. Here’s the video:

What can I say. I found the way they presented the result somewhat… unspectacular. Okay, we’ve got eight boys, gotta pick three, and they’re you, you and you. Thank you. Good bye. That went so fast, and the result was so surprising that I knew right away I needed a good night’s sleep to deal with this. Unfortunately I stayed up all night and I didn’t sleep at all which is why I still feel rather baffled and also very tired and empty and dead, so I’m gonna keep this short. I can’t get over the fact that Chester didn’t make it. He was the one I was absolutely sure of from the beginning, but apparently they were looking for something else. I can see why they picked Gwion and Harry, one for his cuteness and one for his acting, and I guess the big surprise of the evening was Laurence. Totally didn’t see that one coming. I’m sure each one of those three will make a fabulous Oliver, but I think the one I’d most like to see Oliver for me next February is Laurence. He surprised me the most for making it to the final three, now I want to see him do it. Harry would be nice too though. Or maybe Gwion. Oh well, I don’t know. Surprise me. God, I feel dead. Gotta catch some sleep. EDIT: Here’s the three Olivers performing Where Is Love? from Oliver!.
Okay, I’ve been thinking about this whole thing, and while I’m still outraged that Chester didn’t make it I have to admit they didn’t choose the wrong boys. They may not have chosen one or two of the right ones, but they certainly didn’t choose the wrong ones. Gwion was an obvious choice. He’s so little and frail and blonde… but in that aspect he’s very much like so many Olivers I’ve seen before, and I’d love to see something different for a change. Plus, I like my Olivers a tiny little bit older, like the other two. Harry… I’ve always seen him as more of a Dodger type of guy, but it was in this performance of Where Is Love? that he made me believe he could be Oliver for the very first time. But still, the one I’d like to see the most is Laurence. I don’t know, he’s got that underdog quality that goes very well with the role, and I just want to see him do it, not only in a 3 minute song on TV but for 2 hours on a West End stage. So, dear producers, if you’re reading this, I don’t care who’ll play Oliver on opening night in December. But on that Wednesday in February… please make it Laurence.
