Um, yeah, some of you may remember the interview with Baby Babe songwriter Jovette Rivera I did some time ago? Well, in part two of our continuing series Kamichan brings you the stars behind the stars I now present you a personal message from Johnny’s Jimusho co. ltd president Johnny H. Kitagawa. Don’t ask why or how this happened, just read it and have a ball. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, heeeeere’s Johnny:
Hello!
My name is Johnny Kitagawa. I run the biggest agency for boy entertainers in the universe. I’ve turned dozens of talented boys into big stars. In Japanese it takes 12 seconds to say the total number of all CDs they ever sold. I made that. Mary, Julie, all very nice people but they have no idea what makes boys tick. But they’re family, so they need to hold some shares, what are you gonna do. But it Is I, JHK, who owns 60% of the shares. I’m the decider. And for a reason too. I know what I’m doing. There may have been strategic blunders, and there have been disappointments, but none of my debuted artists have ever failed on me. Because I know how to deal with these people. I’ve grown them. I’ve taken them where they are, they know how this business works, they’ve been doing it for years. Fail? By the time they get to debut they know better. I know how boys work, I know how this business works, I know how boys work in this business. Boys need to play. So I let them play. Play gives them a chance to test their skills and all that romantic shit. They love it. And I love it because at play they’re the most relaxed, the most creative, the most beautiful, and that’s what I’m selling. Relaxed, creative, beautiful boys. And I know how to make them want to try their hardest and do their best. I play with them.
A couple of weeks ago I closed the Kung Fu Panda deal for Hey!Say!JUMP. I didn’t really plan this, but when the opportunity came along I grabbed it. However, we already had the volleyball deal going on and we couldn’t cancel that one so that’s why we now have 2 new singles within 2 months. Anyway, the Panda deal was closed and the movie people were really happy to have JUMP do the song. But when I told the boys that they’d do Dreams come true I said to them: “I might have a really big movie tie-in for youtachi. But the movie people aren’t sure if youtachi can pull it off. I told them youtachi will show them. If youtachi do really well with Dreams come true you’re gonna get the movie song. Ganbatte, ne.” They would have gotten the movie song anyway, even if Dreams come true would have gone down the drain, because we had a contract. But they didn’t know that. And it didn’t go down the drain because everybody in the group did their best because there was something in it for them that they wanted: a major opportunity to show off what they can do and how good they’re at it. Nobody had to tell them to work hard. We actually had to slow them down because they were so enthusiastic. After Dreams come true had gone to #1 I told them they got the movie song. And they all went home thinking “Wow, if I work really hard I can do anything“. It was a major boost for the boys’ confidence and motivation, and Dreams come true did well in the charts. Everybody wins. And even if Dreams come true would have gone down the drain, I just would have told them: “Boys, Dreams didn’t really work, but the movie people have seen you try so hard and they were very impressed so they decided they wanted you for that song anyway.” No time for the boys to feel as if they failed. Give them something even better right away and they’ll try even harder. Keep them busy. Keep them high on adrenalin and give them a spoonful of endorphins every once in a while. They’ll go to the moon and back for you and they bring back great footage. Again, everybody wins. Everybody wins either way. We’re all just playing, and everybody wins. It’s so simple. And so much fun.
These boys got my support and they deserve yours too. Please buy their CDs. Thank you for your support. And thank you Kamisan, for giving me the opportunity to speak to all those wonderful people out there in the dark.
Johnny H. Kitagawa

You have no idea how many people I had to sleep with to get this statement from Johnny, so please don’t copy. If you want to share it please link back here. Yay, my first piece of fanfiction in over a year.
But what I’ve always said: he’s a great man.
