Another major movie role for another Junior. This time it’s Ikuta Toma, who will make his big screen debut in the first ever adaptation of Dazai Osamu’s 1948 masterpiece and best selling novel Ningen Shikkaku (No longer human).Toma has been starring in numerous TV drama series since 1997, but Ningen Shikkaku is actually his first ever movie role. Shooting starts in July, the film will be released in 2010.
So yay for Toma! And yay for Ningen Shikkaku which sounds like an awesome story to me. It’s all about Ooba Youzou, a troubled young man who is incapable of socializing with others and keeps hiding behind a façade of silliness and foolery. But as he realizes that his façade isn’t impenetrable, Ooba descends into a maelstrom of sex, drugs, violence and suicidal tendencies.
Wow. At last a movie about people like me.
I definitely want to see this. I think I might also buy the book (available from Amazon.com).
