A friend recently recommended the Swedish film Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) to me, and even though I’m not the biggest fan of vampire and/or horror movies I gave it a try. I’m glad I did.
12-year-old Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant) is a wimpy kid from the Stockholm suburb of Blackeberg who is constantly being bullied by the other boys in school, and out of fear he never fights back. He dreams of revenge though, secretly practicing knife attacks. One day Eli, a strange young girl, moves in to the apartment next to Oskar’s…
The whole movie is somewhat dark and gloomy and cold (lots of snow), but the sweet budding love between Oskar and Eli carries enough warmth and light to make this quite enjoyable.
Let the Right One In is available on DVD and Blue-ray, or as Video on Demand and paperback novel from Amazon.com.
