Where to do it in Japan

by Kamichan | July 9, 2009

So it’s summer, and about half of my friends are going to Japan this year, some of them for the very first time. Time for me, the experienced world traveller, to give you a few useful tips on how to not look like a stupid foreigner. I mean, wou will probably still look like a foreigner, but maybe not as stupid.

In this first (and probably last) post of the series we’ll have a look at how to behave on a train. We already know that if you happen to find yourself in the same carriage with your favourite idol you’re supposed to pretend that you don’t know him, and leave the carriage. But there are many other things that may not be quite as obvious, so here’s my Top 10 of where to do it in Japan as suggested by Tokyo Metro. Thanks to Kermit for the pictures. 01-office No eating underground, yo! If you want to have a picnic, go climb a mountain! Apparently there is no appropriate place to show off your purchases after a day out shopping, only an appropriate time. And it's NOT NOW! Nobody wants to sit next to you and have your newspaper in their face. Go home and do it to your wife! While you're at home, don't forget to blow your nose. And then just dispose of your snotty handkerchief under the couch or something.

Shake the rain off of your umbrella outside where people get wet anyway. Practice your golf swing in the yard where people are getting wet anyway. Circle line parties are no longer allowed. Go drink at a pub. If you've been drinking at the pub, try to make it home before you pass out. There's only one place to run after a train and get caught in the doors. It's THE BEACH!

Have fun in Japan everyone. I wish I could be there too.

And in other news, over 2000 toolbar downloads, yo! Awesome.
