Short hiatus? Maybe?

by Kamichan | August 5, 2009

Hello.

It’s me, Kamichan. I am currently experiencing severe problems with my computer. Yeah, I know, again.

I spent the whole night taking it apart and putting it back together, and I was actually planning to tell you guys today (from my brother’s computer or from an internet cafe or something) that I’ll be gone for an indefinite time. But sometimes things that don’t work at night suddenly work again the next morning. I’m actually sitting at my own computer writing this, so things don’t seem to be as bad as they appeared last night. The system is still highly unstable though, and I’m not sure how long it’ll work.

My hard disk died for good yesterday, and I once again lost all my data. I’m currently trying to restore what I can. I currently have only very limited access to my emails and everything else, so I won’t be able to reply to any emails or comments for now.

Speaking of which, I’m currently downloading some 26,000 of my old emails (thank you Google, for never deleting anything XD), and because that takes a while I just read all the comments you people left to my previous entry. They were all great, and I’d like to say how incredibly grateful I am for all your support. ♥

There was one comment, however, that was a bit critical. There’s nothing wrong with that. Critical comments are appreciated just as much as “I love you” comments. And that comment raised a fair point as well that I’d like to address here. It said that it’s like “you’re trying to start a fandom war with one of the biggest contributors of jump fandom or something“.

The thing is, I’m not trying to start anything. I had been using smileyuya’s videos for over 3 years. In fact, I first mentioned her name on my blog back in 2006. How many of the 100,000+ channel views her last YouTube channel got do you think came from people who clicked the links to her I put up on my blog? And there was never any problem until she suddenly started coming after me and other people complaining that we used her videos. So I’m not starting anything. But if somebody starts picking on me I’m not gonna just shrug it off.

It would be okay if she had a point, but she doesn’t. I mean, come on. Nobody in this fandom gives a shit about the intellectual property rights of FujiTV or NHK, but we’re supposed to respect her “copyright”? Fine, go ahead if you think that’s the right thing to do. But if I did that I would not be able to look into the mirror anymore without being totally ashamed of myself.

And as for the argument that “I’d rather just shut up and and humor her than to not be able to see shokura on yt anymore“, I don’t even know the name of her current YouTube channel, and I don’t care because I am indeed trying to stay away from her. But I watched last Sunday’s Shonen Club on YouTube anyway, on some other channel, which proves my point that she is not unique and not vital to this fandom. There will always be others. They may not be as fast, and they may not provide as high quality videos, but that’s really just a luxury problem and not a matter of life and death.

Okay, I gotta go now and read my 26,000 emails.
