You all heard the news, President Barack Hussein Obama will be awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. As soon as I heard it I turned on Fox News because I wanted to see and hear how conservatives would react to this extraordinary surprise. I watched 15 minutes of Fox & Friends, and there can be no doubt that it was the single most pathetic and revolting piece of television I have ever seen. One of the hosts even said she was “disappointed”. That’s conservative patriotism for you right there. The man could find a cure for cancer and conservatives would complain that thousands of doctors will lose their jobs because of it.

One of the main reasons the Fox News people were so confused is that Obama has been in office for a mere 9 months, so what could he possibly have done in this short period of time that would justify such an award? What they obviously didn’t know was that unlike all the other Nobel Prizes (for physics, medicine, economics etc.) the Peace Prize is not necessarily awarded for already accomplished achievements. Al Gore didn’t stop Global Warming, nor did Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat bring peace to the middle east, nor did the Dalai Lama liberate Tibet. They were awarded the prize for trying to do so, and the Nobel Peace Prize committee has always tried to stimulate and encourage ongoing developments towards peace and to add momentum to such movements. So everybody who’s now bullshitting how Barack Obama hasn’t even done anything yet needs to shut the fuck up and try reading a book or a newspaper for a change. Like that dickhead who edited the List of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates on Wikipedia. >_>

So anyway, Obama gets the prize for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” Well, that’s the official reason. I have of course my own little theory, and that is: he was awarded the Nobel Peace Price because THE MAN IS A WUSS!!!

No seriously, trying to get both parties to work together instead of against each other is really nice and everything, but Obama really needs to grow a set of balls. He was elected by the majority of the people to do the things he said he’d do. Now he should get on with it and do them and not give a damn what his opponents think of him. You know, like Bush did. You can’t please anybody by trying to please everybody, it’s not gonna work. When exactly did “Yes, we can!” turn into “But we don’t have to if some of you don’t like it”?

In other news, and the timing couldn’t have been better for this, after their hugely succesful campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq the United States have today bombed the moon in a bid to find water. I watched the whole thing live on NASA TV, and it was remarkably… unspectacular. They basically dropped a piece of junk onto the moon and had a space probe fly through the resulting cloud of dust. Did they find any water? I don’t know, I certainly didn’t see any, but there will be a press conference later on, so maybe they’ll announce something interesting then.

And finally, details on the Hey!Say!JUMP Photobook are out, and they don’t sound half bad. Personally I don’t care much for concert photos, but I’m looking forward to the rehearsal, dressing room and on-the-road pics, as well as the photos the members took themselves. As for the DVD, “hot message” huh? I’m secretly hoping that it’s a typo and was actually meant to be “hot massage” or something. Haha.
