So, according to NHK‘s chief producer Inoue Keisuke “Kohaku usually only features the top sellers of that year. Arashi is always a best seller. And NYC has been having great sales even though they’re still new.” *
LOL, whut?
This is ridiculous on so many levels. Arashi is always a bestseller, huh? WELL THEN WHERE HAS ARASHI ALWAYS BEEN IN THE LAST 10 YEARS?!? NOT ON KOHAKU!!! NYC‘s sales were indeed quite good for a bunch of 15-year-olds (~330k), but the thing is: sales for KAT-TUN‘s Rescue were even better (~350k), so how come they’re on Kohaku? Instead we have the “top sellers” SMAP (~150k copies sold of Sotto Kyutto) and TOKIO who didn’t even manage to sell all the Limited Editions of their single Taiyo to Sabaku no Bara / Subeki Koto which was in the Oricon Top30 for only 2 weeks and sold a total of less than 40k. Top seller my ass.
Here’s what happened: NHK wanted Arashi on the show, and Mr Johnny-san said “You can have them only of you take NYC boys as well.” You know? Buy one, get one free, whether you want to or not.
But why? Why can’t the old man let go of this temporary group? I don’t know, and I’d rather not find out. I don’t want NYC boys to release another single. Having said that, if they do release another single I’ll probably end up buying it, but it’s not because of Yamada and Chinen. =/
In other news that doesn’t make any sense, next month’s Shonen Club will feature Nakayama Yuma w/ B.I.Shadow. Okay, B.I.Shadow never left Shokura, but Yuma will be back for a little reunion. They’ll perform Akuma na koi and Dial Up. In a talk segment Yuma talks about being on Kohaku Utagassen this year. Yamada and Chinen were not at the Shokura recordings yesterday, but Yuto, Takaki and Daiki were. Completely random to have them on Shonen Club again, just as random as having them on last month. Apparently Daiki made a number of random appearances as Santa Claus throughout the show, and Yuto and Takaki performed together with Question?, with Yuto playing the drums, yay!
And finally, to confuse me even more, the February 2010 issue of Myojo magazine comes with a Hey!Say!JUMP CD case. Which would be a really useful thing IF WE HAD ANY HEY!SAY!JUMP CDs TO PUT IN THERE!!! But who knows, maybe that’s a subtle hint for us that something is about to happen.
