Hello. My name is Kamichan, and I’m telling you right up front that it’s release week and I’m kinda busy in real life as well, so it’ll take me even longer than usual to reply to everyone’s comments. Just so you know. Keep them coming though, they always make my day. Now on with the show…

In my previous post I wrote that the SUPER DELICATE PV was cheap. Well, it turns out that the PVs for Wonderland Train and Su*ri*ru that come with the 2nd Limited Edition of the single are just as cheap. Probably even cheaper because they didn’t have to build a set. They just had a nameless, faceless intern mash existing concert footage together in a windowless Minato-ku basement, and he probably got paid in coffee and cigarettes.

Having said that, both PVs are more fun to watch than SUPER DELICATE. They’re more colorful, and in a way more “real” because this is actual concert footage, stuff that really happened, and not a bunch of guys walking down an imaginary catwalk with solemn looks on their faces. Not that there’s anything wrong with imaginary catwalks or solemn looks, but as a PV for a single it’s not enough. Let’s keep in mind that PV stands for promotion video. It’s a video that is supposed to be played on TV in order to promote the single. No TV station is ever going to play the B-side PVs, so they’re really just a bonus for fans who buy the CD. And to be quite honest, I’ve had worse CD bonuses than these two PVs. Sure, they don’t earn a lot of artistic merits, but they’re colourful and they’re nice to watch because it’s actual concert footage, which might be cherished more by people who never get to watch an actual concert than by people who are in the lucky position to do so regularly or at least occasionally.

It won’t make much sense for me to give individual reviews for both PVs as they are pretty much identical in style. Maybe just a few remarks.

Su*ri*ru: I hate hats but I love male nipples. Fortunately they got rid of the hats early on in the PV and they kept the nipples throughout the whole thing, so that’s good. Also, Inoo got about 20 times as much face time in this PV than he did in SUPER DELICATE, which is also a definite plus.

Wonderland Train: watching a 4-member group perform evokes some painful memories because it reminds me a) of Ya-Ya-yah (and to a much lesser extent of B.I.Shadow) and b) of Ryutaro. But yay for Keito and his guitar, and what’sですよ I had no idea that all four of them could do backflips. It must be especially difficult for Yuto who is like 7ft tall now.

There is one small issue that I have with both PVs, and that’s the fact that sometimes you hear people sing but you see people that are not singing, sometimes you see people sing but you don’t hear anything, and sometimes you see people sing but their lip movements don’t match what you hear. That’s a bit confusing, but it’s not that big a deal.

Generally I think it’s a good idea to have both individual Hey!Say!7 and Hey!Say!BEST songs (and PVs), as long as they’re on the same CD and they don’t make me choose between the two groups if I can afford only one CD. So yeah, the 2nd Limited Edition gets two thumbs up from me.

Jaa~
