I think this is probably gonna be the last SUPER DELICATE anagram I use for a post title. They’be beginning to make less and less sense.

Anyway, the good news of the day is that the boys did it once again. Hey!Say!JUMP sold 248,778 copies of SUPER DELICATE in the first week, securing their 9th consecutive #1 single. That’s great news all in and by itself, but it’s even better if we put it in perspective by looking at the sales of all their singles to date.

Hey!Say!JUMP 1st week sales

  1. 265,390 – OVER
  2. 248,778 – SUPER DELICATE
  3. 246,826 – Ultra Music Power
  4. 217,661 – Magic Power
  5. 211,322 – Mayonaka no Shadow Boy
  6. 201,897 – Hitomi no Screen
  7. 181,064 – Dreams come true
  8. 160,032 – Your Seed / Bouken Rider
  9. 150,504 – Arigatou~ Sekai no doko ni itemo

I guess the message here is perfectly clear. Singles do exceptionally well (at least in the 1st week)  if the titles are written all in caps, or if they have the word “power” in it. Write this down, Mr Johnny-san: just name the 10th single POWER and everything’s gonna be fine.

Now lets have a look at the totals.

Hey!Say!JUMP total sales

  1. 360,246 – Ultra Music Power
  2. 296,307 – OVER
  3. 291,379 – Mayonaka no Shadow Boy
  4. 255,691 – Dreams come true
  5. 254,171 – Magic Power
  6. 250,206 – Hitomi no Screen
  7. 248,778 – SUPER DELICATE
  8. 213,678 – Your Seed / Bouken Rider
  9. 188,555 – Arigatou~ Sekai no doko ni itemo

There can be hardly any doubt that SUPER DELICATE will surpass Hitomi no Screen, Magic Power and Dreams come true in the next week. Whether or not it will be able to beat Mayonaka no Shadow Boy to the #3 spot is anybody’s guess. It’s not impossible, but personally I doubt it at this point. It’ll probably end up somewhere around 280k or so, which is still excellent. And it shows a lot of promise for the rest of their 5th anniversary year. Surely they must release their 10th single before or around the anniversary, although I’m not even sure if I’m talking about the anniversary of the debut announcement in September or the actual debut in November. Anyway, what makes me especially happy is how Hey!Say!JUMP are one of the few Johnny’s groups these days whose sales are actually going up instead of down.

We’re on a very good way into a bright future where unicorns pee rainbows and all that stuff.
